3 thai girls on a motorbike loop in the city of Chiang Rai

The best way to travel in the North of Thailand is by motorbike. The Mae Hong Son loop is very popular and beautiful, as it is the road from Pai to Mae Sai, the border from Myanmar. There are many opportunities from Chiang Mai, or from Chiang Rai, like this 4 days trip I did on September 2012 .

Day 1: Chiang Rai-Mae Sai (Myanmar border) – Golden Triangle – Chiang Saen
Start Chiang Rai at 10.45. Km on bike 21598
1st stop 21638km
11.45 coffee break 21641 Media: 43km/h
12.35 Mae Sai, Myanmar Border km 21661
13.11 Lunch finish 13.30 21673
14.05 golden triangle 21692
16.00 Gin guesthouse in Chiang Saen 21700
16.25 beer on Mekong in Chang Saen 21705

this smiling thai lady offered me this strange fruit -mushroom at lunch, near the golden triangle

11.00 Pa Tung Hot Springs 21753
11.52 out hot springs, stop Amy coffee until 12.34
13.45 Mae Salong, Shane Guesthouse 21791

Day 3: Mae Salong, just a quick trip outside town, then rain

Day 4: Mae Salong – White temple – Chiang Rai
10.00 leaving Mae Salong 21799
11.00 break 21837
11.40 lunch + coffee 21857
14.05 back in Chat guesthouse in Chiang Rai. Rest
Afternoon until White temple (13km South of Chiang Rai)
End of trip 21911km
Tot km 313km

I rent the bike in Chat Guesthouse and I paid 250 baht per day. Probably if you shop around you can find someone who rent for 200, but forget to find cheap rentals as the 100 baht per day you can find in Pai.
