Vagabonding around the World

Places / Luoghi

To date (May 2019) I have been in 106 of 200 countries (193 official members of the United Nations + Vatican City and Palestine: UN Observer, + Taiwan, Kosovo: recognized by most of UN countries + 4 (-1) home nations of The United Kingdom) which make for 54% of the World according to my map

In blue, countries where I lived, green countries where I visited, red are countries I have not been yet.

I have been in 6 Continents, the only one I have not visited yet is Antarctica (which, by the way, does NOT count officially as a country).

I lived (and my personal criteria to say I lived in a place is spend at least 6 months) in 7 countries outside Italy: Thailand (20 months in 6 different trips), Portugal (12 consecutives months + 7), Spain (10 consecutive months + many visits), Colombia (10 consecutive months), England (5 months in London, + many visits), Brasil (4+2 months), Malaysia (7 months in different visits), Nicaragua (3+3 months).

Argentina and India did not made the cut, buy I spent around 5 months in each of them.

Update January 2019

The maps are not updated

UPDATE AUGUST 2017

After touching land in 3 Caribbean countries in 3 days, crossing the half way mark of 100, I revisited this page and realized I was still wrongly counting Hong Kong. Hong Kong was already part of China when I have visited in 2000. I still count Antigua as the symbolic country 100, even if should be now Santa Lucia. And I replace Hong Kong with Dominican Republic, the new country I landed in December 2016, stopping the count at 102 for the moment.

Sadly I have not been in any new country yet in 2017, and I may not, as I have nothing planned for the moment.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2015
have withdrawn Western Sahara from my list, because although I sympathize with the Polysario, the area is de facto occupied by Morocco since too many years and the Sahari people lives now mostly in refugee camps in Algeria. Their de facto situation is no different of Tibet, Kurdistan and many other territories which i wish were free to determine their sovereignity, but they are not.
All of this, simply, de facto.

UPDATE APRIL 2015
I have included the self proclamed Independent Republic of Nagorno Karabakh (or Artksah), which is recognized only by Armenia and it is de facto an Armenian province, but officially it s still part of Azerbaijan.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2014Should I consider Saudi Arabia, where I spent 18hours at the airport, spending local money? Follow the link and voice your opinion!

UPDATE OCTOBER 2013: After reading about http://www.theodysseyexpedition.com I changed my criteria again. Because Taiwan, Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo, Western Sahara and the four home nations of The United Kingdom deserve to be recognized and because 201 is a better number. So when I will reach 100, at the same time I will reach..100 and 50% of the countries in the world. So I included Kosovo and re-inserted on the list Vatican and Wales. Sounds much better!

UPDATE APRIL 2013: I withdrawn Aruba, Curacao (both officially part of Netherlands, despite my passport got stamped in both countries), Gibraltar and Wales (part of UK, although the latter has his own national team, as all Rugby fan knows) and Kosovo (not yet recognized by all UN yet, but I still count it as part of Serbia) and Vatican (only UN observer, not member, the same status recognized to Organization of Liberation of Palestina) from my list.

I also not consider Antanistan, that officially does not exists..even if…
